Glam Slam: Emmy Week – Red Carpet Dress Trends

“I like color. I like experimenting with color. I’m not really afraid of it,” “Mad Men’s” Emmy nominee Christina Hendricks tells us about her search for a gown for the awards show. “So, yeah, I’ll wear pretty much anything.”

Bright colors always pop on camera, which is a good thing. Something else to consider? The weather. It gets really hot on the red carpet, especially with all the camera lights. “It’s always unseasonably warm in Los Angeles for this show, but that never seems to affect the fashion choices, according to Marcy Medina, West Coast Bureau Chief of Women’s Wear Daily. “An actress would rather sweat in a long gown than be underdressed for her photo op.”

Marcy says, “Many stylists are pulling Fall 2010 and Resort gowns, while a lucky few are getting customized versions of styles that will go down the Spring 2011 runways next month.” Here is what we can expect to see on Sunday’s red carpet.

COLORS:
Soft and neutral shades such as blush pink, tea rose, nude, gold and red all seem to be perennial favorites at the Emmys as well.

SILHOUETTES:
Drapey, goddess-like long gowns with short trains and ‘50s style party dresses with nipped in waists and full skirts.

FABRICS:
Chiffon and shimmery fabrics with embroidered detail, lace, ruching, layering and twisting.

JEWELRY:
Expect to see lots of big earrings, cuffs and bracelets. Right hand rings and cocktail rings are also trending.

WHO WILL THEY BE WEARING:
Designers who specialize in red carpet gowns like Monique Lhuillier, Reem Acra, Marchesa and David Meister always make a strong showing at the Emmys. There will be European designers such as Christian Dior, Versace and Giorgio Armani too.
