Glam Slam: Emmy Week — Say Yes To The (Emmy) Dress!

I am jealous of “Glee” star Lea Michele. She told us weeks ago that she already had her Emmy dress all picked out. Lucky girl!

Must be a huge relief for her, there’s so much pressure! Of course, she probably had her pick of lots of gowns with designers vying for her to wear them this Sunday on the red carpet.

I too will be on the red carpet doing fashion commentary for “Red Carpet to the Primetime Emmys,” the live preshow that Access Hollywood is producing. Unlike Lea though, my search was much more last minute! I didn’t start even looking at dresses until Tuesday. And let me tell you, it’s a lot harder when you are a “civilian” and not a star.

It’s not like Donatella or Karl or Vera are on speed dial offering to send me runway samples on private planes. Ha! Wouldn’t that be fabulous? (Not that I could fit into a sample size anyway, but you know, it’s nice to dream.)

Our wonderful wardrobe team led by wardrobe stylist Nicole Allowitz pulled together quite a few gowns for me to check out. I tried on about a dozen dresses including several by Pamella Roland, which are really forgiving and fit my body type well. (My body type would be that of someone who has given birth and will never have a totally flat stomach again – no matter how many sit-ups I do!) I also tried an acid green strapless by Gustavo Cadile, a one-shouldered sequined number by Tadashi Shoji and a blue satin gown by David Meister.

I narrowed things down to three dresses including a pewter beaded dress that looked very vintage. I never pictured myself as a va-va-voom beaded gown kinda girl, but this one was pretty understated and I liked it a lot. A navy Pamella Roland gown was very drapey and flowy and I could have actually eaten lunch if I went with this one, since it wasn’t form fitting. So, what did I end up going with? You’ll see on Sunday – a girl never gives away her style secrets!

The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards air this Sunday, August 29 on NBC and don’t forget to check out the live preshow, “Red Carpet to the Primetime Emmys,” produced by Access Hollywood!
