Glam Slam: From The Soccer Field To The Oscars Red Carpet

Talk about a Cinderella transformation! I started Oscar Sunday hitting the soccer field with my husband and 3-year-old daughter and ended up on Oscar’s red carpet. Oh, just a typical day juggling Mommyhood and Hollywood — haha!

Cargo jacket, jeans and boots are my unglamorous mom-i-form for soccer and T-ball. Then, I ran home to get ready for the big event. I quickly showered, curled my hair, did my makeup and then applied shimmer cream on my neck, chest and arms for a very subtle sparkle (and yummy smell!).

My dress was a pretty vintage strapless Marchesa featuring black burnt out velvet with nude lining and a big silk flower on the bodice…very Carrie Bradshaw! The empire style is very comfy and I didn’t even have to wear Spanx! I didn’t have any black shoes to match the gown and I was hitting stores all over town at the last minute trying to find a pair. I have issues and can’t wear very high heels…even more so since we’re on our feet for hours.

I looked everywhere…from teen stores selling prom shoes, to mall staples like Aldo where the heels are waaaaay too high for me. I ended up running into Saks the day before the Oscars…where Jessica Simpson happened to also be shopping for shoes, by the way!

I literally had five minutes to shop and a saleslady powered through loads of choices to help me zero in on a black pair of sparkly Jimmy Choo platforms. I really didn’t have that kind of money to spend on dressy shoes I won’t wear that often, but the fact that I found a pair that didn’t hurt my feet was nothing short of a miracle, so I bought them. If I had the money I would also buy them in gold and platinum because these shoes were gorgeous and classic and like I said, it’s such a challenge to find heels I can wear so, when you find a good thing, you gotta go with it!

I finished it off with sparkly earrings, bracelet and ring, and a satin Chanel bag I’ve had for ages. Then, it was time to hit the red carpet, which I walked with Susan, one of our producers. (That’s her in the photo we took with Shaun Robinson.) If I was famous, it would be so nerve-wracking to walk such a big carpet with so many photographers and crews. Of course, no one is looking at us non-famous folks, so there’s no pressure at all for us!

Then we hit our “penthouse”…the shooting platform above all the action where we have killer views of all the celebs making their way down the carpet. For the next three and a half hours we check everybody out…JLo, Michelle Williams, Angelina Jolie, Viola Davis, Cameron Diaz. Pure fashion bliss.

And then, poof, like that, it’s over. Time to change back into my mommy wardrobe before I turn into a pumpkin! At least I still have the swanky glass slippers!
