Glam Slam: Fun Fall Trends – The 2011 Edition

I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping, getting my game plan ready for how I’ll be updating my wardrobe for Fall.

Here are the trends that will be showing up in my closet…and the ones that can stay in the stores!

TRENDS TO TRY:
ANIMAL PRINTS
I have always loved leopard and will wear just about anything in an animal print. Even though I already own quite a few things in various animal prints…I just can’t help myself when it comes to updating the look with new pieces. What can I say, I have an obsession that I can’t quite get over! An animal print, especially leopard, is a classic! (Sarah Jessica Parker shows how to do it in a small, chic dose)

BRIGHT COLORS
Bright hues are in for fall with jade green and punchy red getting big play. If you don’t want to be quite so bold, liven up your outfit with accessories. Go for a bright purse (like Kourtney Kardashian), scarf, shoes or jewelry like colored bangles. Bright jeans are still on trend. J. Brand does color well, but, for more inexpensive options, check out Gap or Zara.

RETRO CHIC
30’s Art Deco, 40’s ladylike dresses and the 70’s are all on trend for fall. I like Deco style jewelry….Ann Taylor makes some pretty, affordable pieces and as for the 70’s look, a tie front blouses is easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. Marc Jacobs has a cute navy print blouse I love, but more affordable stores like Forever 21 are all over this trend.

HEELED LOAFERS
I love this look…it’s smart and polished for work, and the sturdy heel makes it easier on your feet. I like how Hailee Steinfeld’s blue loafers (pictured) add a pop of color to her outfit.

MENSWEAR MOMENT
Actually, menswear is a classic that never seems to go out of style. Pants are back in a big way and make sure you feminize your look so it’s not too masculine. Soften sharply tailored pieces by adding accessories with feminine details.

TRENDS I’M SKIPPING:
FLARE JEANS
I’m still a sucker for skinnies. I don’t find flare jeans flattering on my body type and they’re a little too seventies boho for me.

SOUTHWESTERN PRINTS
Ashley Greene and Ashley Tisdale are two stars who have been seeing wearing Navajo prints, which seem to be everywhere. It’s just not my thing. At. All. Sitting this one out entirely.

WEDGE HEEL BOOTS
Too clunky and unfeminine for me. I think of Herman Munster every time I see a pair!

CAPES
I actually like the look of a cape, but it’s just not very practical and not something that really works in Southern California. Same with chunky cable knit sweaters…they work for most of the country, but here, not so much.

VARSITY JACKETS
Huh? Why?
