Glam Slam: Get Fit Fashion?

When did the treadmill become the new runway? I obviously missed the memo!

I cannot believe how people are dressed at the gym these days… they are actually getting dressed up to work up a sweat! I was next to a perfectly coiffed lady on the elliptical machine, who wore her oh-so-chic Jackie O sized sunglasses for her entire workout.

Another lady sported a stylish scarf during her workout on the treadmill. Not something that might actually be functional to perhaps absorb sweat. No, I’m talking about a real scarf you would see someone wearing out and about. The pink scarf even perfectly accessorized her matching gym outfit. Yet, a third woman wore a silk flower in her hair for her workout!

I know plenty of people think the gym is a place to meet men. They work out fully made up and dressed in their cute crop tops and sexy yoga pants to show off their surgically enhanced bodies, but something else is going on here. These three women were wearing sizeable wedding rings, so I don’t think they were hoping to pick up guys.

However, one young girl paraded through the gym several times and she nearly flashed us! I kid you not. I’m not sure she was actually even working out; I think she was just walking back and forth trying to get attention. Well, she certainly got mine! She had on a trendy very loose, very low cut, very see through tank top on – and no bra.

She was bouncing all over the place and the sides of the top were cut so low I could see just about everything. I was worried she was going to pop out and expose her bits! (Have ya heard of a sports bra?!) Then her mom came in and didn’t seem to notice at all that her young daughter was dressed like one of the stars you see stumbling out of Hollywood clubs at 4AM. Really? Gross!

Are people that desperate for attention they will practically streak through the gym? So desperate to look perfect at all times, even when they are working out? Let me point out that women aren’t the only ones guilty of this. There are plenty of guys at my gym, who look like Jon Gosselin clones, working out in their Ed Hardy shirts and hats and pants so baggy they drag on the floor… not the safest thing when you are on a bike or treadmill, or working out on a machine!

I’m not saying you have to look like a slob at the gym. Who doesn’t like cute workout gear? What happened to going to the gym to burn calories and fat and build and tone muscles? You know, a workout… not a fashion show.
