Glam Slam: Going High Def!

It’s been SPOTTED on the set of “Gossip Girl”! The soon-to-be sixty Meryl Streep wouldn’t go without it to this year’s Oscars! Courteney Cox and Sandra Oh are loving it too. So what is IT? High Definition Makeup!

I’ve been hearing the term “high definition” next to different brands of makeup for a while now and I realized I had no idea what it meant. So I went straight to a pioneer of the phenomenon – celebrity makeup artist Kevin Bennett of Make Up For Ever, which has a full HD Complexion line.

“It’s got coverage which is something everyone wants. But it’s invisible. It was developed on camera.” Make Up For Ever developed its HD Invisible Cover Foundation as more and more television shows began shooting in high definition…makes sense! Because these cameras show pictures much sharper than before, the makeup had to provide full coverage and also appear shear and natural. Not to get too scientific, but the foundation’s silicone based formula is designed to accomplish an amazing feat: reflecting light at the same time it smoothes and gives a matte finish!

While this is great for shows like “Heroes,” “Gossip Girl,” and “CSI” (whose makeup artists use HD Complexion)…I’m not on TV. So why should I go HD? Kevin explains “the product was designed to cover invisibility in front of cameras that are 6 times the human eye. If it looks that good on camera, how’s it going to look to the human eye?” I can live with that!

And here’s a tip on how to use it. To maximize the foundation’s effect, “use a synthetic brush to apply the foundation. After the foundation is applied, the brush will be slightly damp. Then take a sponge and pat a little bit of blush on your cheeks. Take the damp foundation brush and blend out the blush. It gives you a glow and makes makeup last longer.”
