Glam Slam: Going Nude At The Emmys

Debra Messing’s red Michael Kors gown hit a style homerun at the Emmys. I thought she nailed her makeup look too. She could have done the predictable thing and gone with matching red lipstick, but I like that her makeup didn’t compete with her bold gown. Instead it was all about the NUDE lip, paired with a smokey eye.

Carol Shaw, Celebrity Makeup Artist and Creator of LORAC Cosmetics, created Debra’s look and reveals how you can do it too.

“First I start with the eyes (saves time and the skin with less rubbing having to reapply the concealer and foundation). I used LORAC’s Red Carpet Reveal Palette to get a shimmering brown smokey eye. First I apply the lightest shade in the palette all over the entire eye area for a highlight, then I apply the second shade a cool brown with shimmer on the lid and in the crease, I smoke it up with the 3rd shade a deep brown half way on the lid and a little in the crease and under the lower lash line. I use my long-wearing Black Front of the Line PRO Eyeliner along the top lash line for Red Carpet definition. I used the double ended Special Effects Mascara and did one coat of the Conditioning Primer and 2 or 3 coats of the Lengthening Mascara.”

“On Debra’s cheeks I applied the TANtalizer Baked Bronzer, for a warm bronze glow, then on the apple of her cheek I added Exposed Baked Matte Satin Blush for a healthy pop of color. Perfectly Lit Powder goes on the cheek bone for additional radiant shine.

For her nude, glossy lips we used #18 (Nude) Lip Pencil to line and define the shape, then straight from the tube we used Nude Scene Breakthrough Performance SPF 15 Lipstick and finished with Vintage (nude) Couture Shine Liquid Lipstick using the excellent attached brush for high-shine.”
