Glam Slam: Green Week — Eco Chic Tots

Happy Earth Day! Every choice we make has an impact on the future and I can’t think of anything more appropriate than looking at ways to go green for the next generation. We continue GLAM SLAM’s Green Week with eco-friendly ideas for babies and kids.

BABY THEIR SKIN
Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Alba, Heidi Klum and Courteney Cox Arquette are fans of Episencial’s chemical free creams for kids, which use organic extracts and are produced with solar power. The company also uses recycled and sustainable packaging featuring artwork by “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” creator, Eric Carle. I met the line’s creator Kim Walls M.S. and her sister Lisa, who is Vice President of the company and loved their passion… they personally walked me through the line and made sure I tried out every one of their baby products, which work for kids of all ages. (Love the soothing cream, which smells like pear!) Added bonus: Sales from Episencial products benefit the company’s philanthropic partner Healthy Child, Healthy World, which aims to protect children from harmful chemicals. www.episencial.com

TRENDY TOTS
Wild Dill is a one-stop website for eco-friendly clothing, toys, bedding and furniture for babies and toddlers. (Kellie Martin is a fan of the Ecotots furniture line, which is sold on Wild Dill.) The site only carries items that use natural, organic, fair trade, made in the USA/Europe or recycled products. www.wilddill.com My web-addicted husband discovered “happy green bee”, a line of organic babies and kids clothing from the creator of Burt’s Bees. Let’s just say he went a little crazy (actually, he went a little overboard) ordering fun, colorful and cheerful striped tights and sweaters for our daughter. www.happygreenbee.com

AN “APPLE” A DAY
Apple Park makes adorable organic plush baby animals (bunny and lamby are the cutest in my book!) that are a hit with Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Ali Landry. The products and packaging are made with ecologically supported materials including 100% organic cotton, natural silk, non-toxic plastics and sustainably grown fibers to create the line that is naturally hypoallergenic. The company, which also makes animal blankies and crib size blankets, was the first organic soft toy factory in China to be certified by Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Prices start at $12 for a rattle to $88 for a deluxe blanket. www.applepark.com

SAFE SIPPING
Worried about your little ones drinking from plastic? Kid Basix has created a whole line of stainless steel drink wear for babies and kids, that are a favorite of Hollywood moms Jennifer Garner, Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera. From ”The Safe Starter” baby bottle to sippy cups and water bottles for kids, these non-toxic and sustainable children’s products get the whole family in on the environmentally friendly action. Available in bright, hip colors, prices start at $12.95. www.kid-basix.com

TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL
It’s easy being green when you get your kids into it early! It makes perfect sense that outdoor loving star Matthew McConaughey’s kids have “Green Start,” a series of colorful books and puzzles that give kids an awareness of the Earth, covering topics like animals, plants and simple ways to be eco-friendly. “Green Start” uses recycled materials and eco-friendly ink and each book also has tips for parents to teach Earth friendly habits at home! Prices start at $6.99, available at www.givewink.com.
