Glam Slam: Happy Birthday Lourdes!

Madonna’s mini me daughter Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon hits a milestone today – she’s officially a teenager! The 13-year-old is “Trouble with a capital T,” according to her world famous mama, who obviously knows a thing or two about “trouble with a capital T” herself!

Turning 13 is a huge deal and no one knows that better than teen author Brittany MacLeod, who with her journalist mom Terri, wrote ‘113 things to do by 13.’

The two came up with a few ways to help Lourdes kick off her teen years in super fab style.

Keep A Journal:
This is an excellent way to let out your feelings, get a reality check, discover who you are and keep track of how you’ve changed. Be sure to stash it out sight. Your private thoughts need to be just that – private!

Have an OMG moment! Learn from it:
Spill a drink on your crush. Forget your acting lines. Or score a goal for the other team. Having a red-faced OMG moment happens to everyone, but it’s how your respond that matters. Failure can teach you the importance of hard work. Cheer yourself on and try it again.

Discover your hidden talent:
Beyonce can wiggle her ears. Cameron Diaz can burp on command. Patrick Dempsey can juggle spinning plates. Discover your hidden talent – something that’s unique to you and own it! Celebrate what separates you from the pack and boost your self-esteem.

Say no to gossip:
Dishing on your buds is not cool. Before you pass on the latest ‘did you hear what happened to so and so’ – think would you want the same said about you? Gossip hurts feelings, reputations and is no way to build a sisterhood.

Host a sleepover party:
Playdates are s-o-o-o yesterday! 13-year-olds have sleepovers (pah-l-e-e-e-z)! Groom your social skills and host an all night bash for your best friends. Stay up late, chat all night, watch a scary movie, pig-out on junk food – just have fun!

Learn a few beauty tricks:
Thirteen is the perfect age to start experimenting with makeup. Don’t raid your mom’s makeup! Keep it nice ‘n natural. Major makeup on young girls is a big don’t. A roll of gloss and a hint of blush are just right for school. Come party time, take it up a notch with a glittery shadow or liner.

Have a signature style:
As Lourdes’ mom knows (perhaps better than anyone) style is more than copying the latest looks out of magazine or what’s hot with your best friend. Whether it’s side-swept bangs, wearing leggings with your favorite mini, or layering colorful scarves over your tees – fashion says a lot about you. Develop your look and dare to be a little different. Express yourself!
