Glam Slam: Holiday Hair Inspiration

With holiday parties on the calendar and New Year’s Eve around the corner, it’s hard to come up with fresh ways to make a statement with your hair.

So look no further for a little inspiration than Kerry Washington and Keira Knightley, who both wowed with their red carpet up-dos. Here’s how you can achieve their looks.

KERRY WASHINGTON:
WHO: Celebrity hairstylist Marcus Francis worked with Kerry Washington for the American Music Awards.

GET THE LOOK:
“Using Rene Furterer Volumizing Mousse on damp hair, I blew out the hair using a medium size round brush. Find the side you naturally part and swoop the bangs to frame the face. With a 1/4” curling iron wrap small sections of hair from roots to ends throughout the head. (A smaller curling iron will give the volume and longevity to the look you need). The sections of hair around the face should be wrapped on the iron away from the face. Lightly spray each section with a medium hold hairspray like L’Oreal Elnett Hairspray.

Brush out the hair with a flat paddle brush, like a Mason Pearson, to soften the curls which will also expand then for more width and volume. Take the back section of the hair and roll under toward the nape into a large pin curl and secure with large bobby pins from each side so they’re parallel with each other. Then do the same with both the left and right sides. Leaving the shorter layers around the face and on top make it more fun and youthful. Always add a few more bobby pins for a more secure foundation. Finally seal the hair with Oribe Superfine Strong Hairspray to hold the texture and shape without weighing it down.”

KEIRA KNIGHTLEY:
WHO: Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Celebrity Stylist Ben Skervin created Keira Knightley’s vintage hair look for the LA premiere of Anna Karenina.

GET THE LOOK:
First start out by prepping wet hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse for lightweight volume.

Rough dry hair, using fingers to give texture and make hair appear less finished.

Part hair on the side. Starting on one side, twist the hair at the front into a loose roll and work your way to the back, adding hair to the roll.

Keeping the roll low and close to the hair line, secure the roll in place with bobby pins and U shaped pin as you slowly twist it inward. Loosely pin hair, so the end look is slightly unkempt.

Repeat rolling and pinning on opposite side of hair until the two rolls meet in the back. Connect the two rolls at the lower neck and once secured, pull out loose hair strands to create a messy, unfinished look.

Finish the look with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to hold the style in place.
