Glam Slam: Lupita Nyong’o & Cate Blanchett’s Oscar Beauty – Get The Looks!

Lupita Nyong’o and Cate Blanchett did not disappoint when it came to their red carpet style statements at the Academy Awards (both made my Top Five Best Dressed List, BTW).

While most of us do not have access to their Haute Couture high fashion, their makeup is accessible and here’s how you can do it yourself.

WHO: Celebrity Makeup Artist Nick Barose
THE LOOK: “Modern day Liz Taylor on Vacation”
THE INSPIRATION: “I wanted to pay homage to old Hollywood but not let the makeup come off too period or retro,” Nick says. “So I took elements from classic movie stars like Liz Taylor—who was known for her cat eye—without being too heavy handed about it. We focused on an airy gray eye shadow, slightly winged out at the outer corners, with peachy lip that’s ethereal and fresh for spring.”

HOW TO:
The Face:
I dusted CHANEL Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour in No. 70 on specific areas—the forehead, under the eyes, the bridge of the nose and chin—to brighten up the complexion. The camera loves it when the face looks all lit up! From there, I applied Le Blush Crème in Chamade in circular motions on the apples of the cheeks with a beauty sponge, sheering it down into a peachy color so you don’t see any of the edges of the makeup. It was almost like a watercolor effect.

The Eyes: After lining the upper lids with Ligne Graphique de CHANEL in Noir, I traced Style Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Or Rose on the lower lid, which opens up the eyes and brightens your look. Then I swept the gray color from the Ombres Tracees Quadra Eyeshadow in Jardin Zen on the center of the lid, and blended in the black shade at the edges to add dimension and a subtle wing. Then I put the peachy tone on the brow bone and the lower lashes—over the golden liner—which creates an illuminating, highlighter effect.

The Lip: I wanted a lip that was sweet without being too sweet. I started with applying CHANEL Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care to prep the lips and followed the balm with Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Mélodieuse, an angelic peach that still has a seductive edge. But a color like this can often disappear around the edges. So to prevent that, I first sketched on a pencil slightly darker than her skin tone—CHANEL Aqua Crayon Lip Colour Stick in Brown Copper —just on the cupid’s bow and the corners of the mouth. Then I did two coats of the lipstick, and finished by tracing over the liner again with an angled makeup brush dipped in the lipstick. It’s a little trick to blend in everything, and add precision to your look.

CATE BLANCHETT

WHO: Celebrity Makeup Artist Jeanine Lobell
THE LOOK: Modern movie star
THE INSPIRATION:
“We were inspired by classic, old Hollywood and wanted to give Cate a look that will be timeless,” said Lobell.

HOW TO:
The Face:
Jeanine patted SK-II Facial Treatment Essence into the skin before applying foundation to allow her to use a more lightweight foundation and to ensure it will stay put all night long. Jeanine applied Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush #10 Beige to the apples of Cate’s cheeks and feathered it out before applying a second coat to ensure she looked like she was glowing from within.

The Eyes: Jeanine used the warm taupe shade from the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad #2 Effeto Nudo all over as a base; the deeper taupe on the lid and feathered it into the crease to open up the eye; the light brown was mixed with the deeper taupe and applied to the outer crease and center; and the darkest brown was wet and used as a liner. Jeneine then curled lashes with the Troy Surratt Lash Curler. After cutting a strip of false lashes and applying to the corner of the eye, Jeanine applied Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara to the base of the lashes and pressed it in to give her real lashes a false effect.
She set the brows with Makeup Forever Brow Gel.

The Lip: Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in #103 – Jeanine finished the look with this creamy, beige-y pink.
