Glam Slam: Makeup Monday — Smoke Gets On Your Eyes

Eva Longoria Parker is the latest celebrity to nail the smoky eye trend. Her dramatic makeup at the Emmys was totally chic.

Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Sienna Miller and Keira Knightley have also all rocked the look. Of course, they have their own personal glam squads to make sure they don’t leave the house with eye shadow smeared all over their face. For us mere mortals, the smoky eye can be a tricky look to pull off.

So I asked Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee, who is the master of smoky eyes to reveal her tricks, which she recently used on Keira Knightley at the NY premiere of “The Duchess.”

“Keira typically loves a strong eye. I started out with a really fine line of Chanel Professional Eyeliner Duo in Noir-Lamé next to the lashes,” Kate tells us.

Next, she used Chanel’s Highlighter Face Pen in Beige Rose, then drew a line along the bottom lash with Intense Eye Pencil in Noir. Blend with a small round brush. Then, use the black shade in the Smoky Eye Quad to define the socket and lash line.

“To finish the look, I used tons of Exceptionnel de Chanel Mascara in Smoky Noir on the lashes,” Kate added.

When the eyes are the focus, keep the rest of the face neutral so you don’t have too much going on at once. And if you, like me, are worried about looking like a raccoon, you can still do a smoky eye — just use lighter, less intense colors like browns and beiges.
