Glam Slam: Makeup Mondays — Recycle Your Makeup

In honor of Earth Day on Wednesday, this week’s Glam Slams will be dedicated to becoming eco-chic. There are lots of green products out there to buy, of course, but what about the products you already have? Turns out you can be both environmentally and budget friendly by recycling your makeup! Napoleon Perdis, creator of the Napoleon Perdis line (loved by “90210” gals AnnaLynne McCord, Jessica Lowndes and Shenae Grimes) tells us to think before we toss!

MAKE NEW SHADES: “Use the remnants of an old eye shadow to customize new shades of lip gloss, eyeliner or nail polish,” Napoleon says. It’s as simple as mixing the products together. Use more or less depending on how dark you want your new shade to be! “Don’t be afraid to mix and match and get creative!”

MAKE YOUR OWN POLISH OR GLOSS: “Bring new life to that old clear nail polish by mixing it with the Napoleon Perdis Loose Dust ($20) of your choice.” There are over 20 to choose from but for really rockin’ nails, Napoleon recommends shades in Wild, Scream Blue or Techno Glitter! You can also add the Loose Dust to clear gloss, like Napoleon Perdis Lip Lacquer in Clearly Glam ($18), for a new shade! Who doesn’t love having new lip gloss or nail colors?

MIX YOUR MASCARA: Napoleon says, “When you feel like your mascara is dry, add some drops of baby oil to breathe new life into it.” It will lengthen your supply and keep it fresh!

MAKE YOUR OWN EYELINER: Get all the shades of liner you could ever ask for, just by taking Napoleon Perdis Cake Eyeliner Sealer ($20) and dabbing it into your favorite eye shadow. This will turn the shadow into liquid eyeliner. You can also dip the Sealer into that loose powder we talked about earlier and brush it onto lashes. Voila, no mascara needed! Great for saving our resources and your bank account!

And Napoleon recommends a good rule of thumb when you do buy new products: multitask them! Less consumption means less strain on our resources! So when you shop, look for beauty products that can serve more than one function, like Napoleon Perdis Light Patrol Palette ($60). Amanda Bynes was just spotted picking one up in Los Angeles – and “it can be used for color on your cheeks, lips, eyelids and browbone!”
