Glam Slam: Oscar Hair Trends 2011

Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Amy Adams, Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson will all walk the red carpet at this Sunday’s Oscars and I can’t wait to see what they wear… and how they wear their hair.

“Retro is back in a big way and nowhere is it more perfect to see these looks then on the Oscar red carpet,” says Remington’s Celebrity Hairstylist Richard Marin, who has worked with everyone from Cindy Crawford to Jodie Foster and Felicity Huffman. “This year, I think we’re going to see beautifully finished hair. By that, I mean people who set their hair with hot rollers and who do beautiful work with curling irons.

“You’ll see anything from luxurious flowing long hair like Kim Kardashian to a variety of up-dos. You are definitely going to see a lot of variation on the red carpet this year.”

Richard is sharing his step-by-step tips to two looks he created for the red carpet… Here’s how:

WHO: TINA FEY
WHERE: 2011 SAG Awards
INSPIRATION: It’s ‘60s in feeling, yet modern with loose bangs and an asymmetrical chignon.

HOW TO: To get Tina’s look, blow dry hair upside down for maximum volume with an ionic dryer and a round brush for a frizz-free, smooth look. After spraying thermal heat protectant, I used Remington’s T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Sleek & Curl Straightener to bend the ends of the hair for movement. Next, backcomb hair at the crown and pull into a side ponytail. Finally, twist the ponytail until it coils into a chignon, secure with bobby pins and finish off with hairspray! I predict that we will see many variations of this classic up-do on the red carpet.

WHO: DIANE KRUGER
WHERE: 2010 Golden Globes
INSPIRATION: I created Diane Kruger’s updated ‘50s retro hairstyle to perfectly complement her stunning pink tulle Christian Lacroix gown. The look is perfectly groomed, not a hair out of place!

HOW TO: The look is not only sleek, but very simple to create! After drying, make an obvious side part. Curl the bottom sections of the hair to shoulder length using hot rollers. Brush out the curls several times to create the roll that sits at the shoulder. For extra punch, place pearl encrusted hair combs on either side of the hair, just above the ears!
