Glam Slam: Play Up Your Shape

During the summer, we all show some more skin, so it’s is a great time to flaunt what you’ve got and play up your shape!

People StyleWatch takes a look at how to dress right for your body type.

“The key to dressing sharp is knowing what works for your body,” says Kate Dimmock, fashion director of the magazine. “You should try to highlight your figure; not hide it!”

Check out these tips to flatter your figure…

CURVY

If you’re curvy (like Blake Lively)—go for body skimming silhouettes like pencil skirts or a sheath dress. “Mariah Carey really dresses for her curves,” says Dimmock. “She adds just the right touches with fitted dresses that look like they were made just for her!”

BUSTY

If you’re busty (like Kate Upton) —go for scoop or V-neck cuts and structured jackets. “You should avoid necklines that are either too high or too low, and don’t go for anything too tight!”

PLUS-SIZE

“For plus size (like Amber Riley), you want to look for well-made fabrics that are thicker, and have some stretch. Then find pieces—a dress, top or pants—that really fit with good tailoring, and show off your figure.”

BOYISH

If you’re boyish (like Kate Bosworth) —go for dresses or jackets that nip at the waist and carve out a shape. “Create some curves with a thick black belt or ruffles. Creating a waist line really does the trick.”
