Glam Slam: Scarlett Goes Short!

Scarlett Johansson is the latest celebrity to chop it all off, trading her long waves for a chic bob, following in the footsteps of Keira Knightley and Nicole Richie, who recently went short.

Thinking about taking it all off yourself? Fekkai Celebrity Stylist Adir Abergel, who has worked with Sandra Bullock, Kristen Stewart and Eva Mendes, shares tips for doing the short do.

“When going in to see your stylist, a visual of the kind of bob your looking for can be very helpful. Bring in pictures,” Adir suggests. “With this kind of a bob, like we see on Scarlett, you want to have the front of your hair longer, so it hits just about collar bone length and graduating front a bit- shorter back to longer front. This bob also has very slight longer layers with just a few shorter ones to frame the face. This cut works well for anyone who has straight hair to wavy hair and even for curly hair as long as it’s not kinky curls. For curly hair, you want to make sure that the cut is going to be long enough when it dries, so make sure you walk in with your natural texture to your stylist and maybe have him cut the longest part while its still dry.”

This style is a lot more versatile than your normal bob length cut. You still have enough hair to wear it up if you want to, or wear it in different ways down.

If you have STRAIGHT hair, this style is very easy to achieve. All you would do is start out by applying Fekkai Coiff Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel to the roots and rough dry it with your hands to create a natural texture. Finish the look by taking a large barrel iron, waving the ends and apply a pomade.

For WAVY hair, you want to start out by applying some kind of a shine serum like Fekkai Silky Straight Ironless Smooth Finish Serum, to get the roots a bit smoother. Dry hair with your hands. Point your hair dryer nozzle on the roots to flatten the top of hair, leaving only the waves on the bottom. Finish with Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax to create a more pieced effect on ends.

For CURLY hair, you might want to use something a bit heavier, like a leave in conditioner, to weigh down the hair so it doesn’t get too big. Dry completely and finish the look by taking a large curling iron and making your curls more into waves. Finish with a glossing mist for shine and definition.
