Glam Slam: Scentspiration!

Temptation gets the better of me every time. Those naughty people at Neiman Marcus placed the Jo Malone counter right by the front door, so it’s impossible to walk in or leave without making a pit stop!

The fragrance line is a favorite of Victoria Beckham and Jessica Alba. I fell prey the other day when I was leaving the store and decided to “quickly” check out the newest fragrance, English Pear & Freesia.

I sprayed some on, but wasn’t immediately sold… it’s a bit on the sweet side for me. The guy working the counter asked me if I have any other Jo Malone fragrances. “Why yes, cute guy. I sure do! “

Nutmeg & Ginger is my favorite. I also have Orange Blossom, White Jasmine & Mint and Sweet Lime & Cedar. I am a huge fan of Wild Fig & Cassis and Pomegranate Noir too. You might say I have an entire wardrobe of Jo Malone fragrances. He showed me how to create my own “bespoke, signature scent” by mixing scents. He combined the Pear with other scents to make it less “sweet” and it totally changed how it smelled.

Combining scents is what Jo Malone is all about, of course. I realize that I am way late to this party. As a classic Type A personality, I would not even mix my finger paint colors or Play-Doh colors back in preschool. Today, I am much the same way about makeup and perfume. Wouldn’t dream of doing a perfume mash-up. So this was a great way to rework the perfumes I already have.

The nice sales guy gave me a “menu” with suggestions of fragrances that work well with others. This was just the inspiration I needed. Even though I do not have Jo Malone’s Vetyver, I do have Frederic Malle’s Editions de Parfums Vetiver Extraordinaire… which worked just as well. Then I started mixing some of my other perfumes and came up with whole new combinations. In the end, this was a great way to feel like I was getting something new, by reworking what I already have. Sweet! Especially in this economy.
