Glam Slam: Shady Stars

What would Hollywood Stars do without their signature sunglasses? Many would feel exposed without them and they certainly wouldn’t look as cool or as glamorous, that’s for sure!

Hollywood (and all of us) can thank Foster Grant, America’s first sunglasses company, for helping us look a bit more stylish! The company, which is turning 80, sold the very first pair of shades at the Woolworth on the Atlantic City Boardwalk back in 1929, and has had a long relationship with Hollywood.

In the 60s there was the famous “Who’s That Behind Those Foster Grants?” ad campaign, featuring stars Raquel Welch, Mia Farrow and Woody Allen. Elvis Presley became a fan and started wearing the brand in the 70s.

As part of the 80th anniversary celebration, the company has teamed up with several celebrities, including Paula Abdul, Nicole Richie, Zac Efron and Kerry Washington, for an online auction of signed glasses. Full proceeds go to two organizations that help underprivileged American children, Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services Organization and The Hoop-A-Paluza Foundation.

The auction starts July 29th and runs for two weeks. www.charityfolks.com/fostergrant
