Glam Slam: Spring Denim!

After months of being covered up in sweaters and jackets and scarves, Spring is the perfect time to break out your cute, comfy dresses. But just because the weather is warming up doesn’t mean I will be ditching my denim anytime soon. Which denim is a do and what is a don’t? People StyleWatch Contributing Style Editor Lori Bergamotto has:

TRENDS:
1. Light denim: White washed and sand-colored denim is all the rage this season. The light blues and neutrals can be worn for casual days, of course, but also dressed up (with blazers or sparkly tops) for a night out. Pair them with tops in Spring’s palest shades for the freshest effect.

2. Denim leggings: Super comfy, super stylish, and (surprisingly) really wearable, the denim legging is a huge trend this Spring.

3. Cargo denim: Whether it’s cropped or boot-cut, the cool pockets and accents on this updated denim style make these jeans stand out. Pair them with a modern clog for a style that’s very Spring 2010.

TIPS:
With so many denim options from this season and jeans of seasons past, you can streamline your choices by putting these three denim looks in storage.

LOOKS TO LOSE:
1. Bright Colors: Neons and electric brights had their moment and the denim trends have moved on. Stick with standard denim washes (from light to dark) or basic blacks, sand-colored and gray washes.

2. Super distressed: A rip here or there is still trendy, but ditch denim that has been excessively ripped or shredded.

3. Extreme Rises: Women should rejoice at the fact that ultra-high-waists and down-to-there (yes, “there”) cuts are so last season. It’s all about moderation this year… which is far more flattering on all body types.

CELEB FAVES:
Gwyneth Paltrow is not only pals with designer Stella McCartney, she’s also a fan of her light-denim skinny jeans. Celebs taking skinnies to a whole other body-clinging level are Heidi Klum and Lauren Conrad who love their Paige and Levi’s denim leggings. Amanda Bynes impressed us with her denim-on-denim expertise (a look that can be tough to pull off) in denim by J Brand and a light chambray shirt offset by the always-classic Hermes belt.
