Glam Slam: Summer Nail Trends

When I tell you that CHANEL celebrity manicurist Ashlie Johnson has been one extremely busy girl, I’m not exaggerating.

She did the nails of stylish stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth AND Dakota Fanning for the Met Gala. Phew!

So who better to give us all the details on the hot nail trends you need to know about right now.

NUDES:
“This trend is right on the top of my list, as I wear this one every day,” Ashlie says. “You just can’t go wrong with one of these on your hands or toes. The shades come in a wide range to suit any skin tone and look super lady-like on an almond nail shape. Let your nails grow just a bit longer than your fingertip and then file away the corners into an oval shape. Next pick a beige or nude to suit your skin tone and apply your base, two coats of beige then a top coat. To get this look, try CHANEL Le Vernis in ‘Beige,’ a new shade that’s a gorgeous beige with a luminosity to it. Kristen Stewart wore this color to the MET.”

BRIGHTS AND NEONS:
“Bright and neon colors have long been a summer staple and this season is no exception. They make us happy and there are endless options these days. Neons are no longer only found on girls dancing on a pole. These shades have been redesigned by the most upscale designers and can be seen on everyone from your little sister to the moms at the park. Try mixing it up and try a bright orange on your toes with a bright pink on your hands. It’s definitely more chic for them not to be matchy. I love CHANEL Le Vernis in Holiday for the summer! It’s a gorgeous bright coral; it screams summer to me and looks great on every skin tone.”

METALLICS:
“Metallics are hugely popular right now: they are super shiny, last forever and match everything. This is the perfect way to add a bit of glam to your look with metallic accessories being all over the runway you can get the effect on a budget. I’m in love with the golds and rosy-gold shades for summer…they look incredible in the sand. I love CHANEL ‘Gold Fingers’ because the gold sparkles so much in the sunlight that they are hypnotizing.”

OMBRE:
“This is a new trend that I’ve really gotten into, it’s almost like a water color painting to me and picks up on the ombreé hair trend. I also love that you get to choose more than just one color to mix together. Start by painting your nails with the lightest shade, then with a makeup sponge dip it into the darker shade moving from the free edge toward the base making the free edge more opaque and blending up. Then top with top coat and your set to go.”

MIX MATCHING:
“Gone are the days of our grandmother’s matching hands and toes and lipstick with our handbags. Today is all about experimenting and expression, especially in the nail department. So play around and have fun, put a metallic on your toes and bright on your hands or vice versa. Just don’t forget to have fun with it!”
