Glam Slam: The $90K Baby Wardrobe

Last week Rachel Zoe revealed that she had spent nearly 90 thousand ($87,000 to be exact) on her baby boy Skyler’s wardrobe.

He’s four-months-old.

She outfitted his room with a $1,400 Hermes blanket and matching cushions at $522 each, which makes his $914 crib seem like a true bargain. He also has a nearly $1,200 Gucci jacket and a $3,700 designer shoe collection. All together, his wardrobe totals about $78,000.

Hmmmmm.

Rachel’s worth millions and she’s certainly entitled to spend her money any way she wants… I dunno, maybe 90 thousand is just a drop in the bucket to her. But 90 grand? Really? REALLY?

Let me say that I like Rachel and think she’s so entertaining on her show. I can understand her first time mom excitement and wanting to go crazy buying things for your baby. But that’s pretty extreme.

Since she’s a famous stylist, did she feel pressured to dress her child as well as her celebrity clients? Is it to make good television… something we’ll get to see and ooh and ahhh over on her show?

I don’t know, but even if I had that kind of money I don’t think I would spend it on clothes a baby is only going to wear once or twice max before outgrowing. Not to mention spitting up on.

What about using the opportunity to show her skills as a stylist and dress her baby on a budget using clothes from Target, babyGap, Gymboree and other accessible stores. I would be more impressed with that than a bunch of designer names. But maybe people expect her kid to be dressed to the nines, so she had to go big. Not sure it had to be 90 grand big though.

In today’s economy, it seems especially ostentatious to drop that kind of cash on frivolous baby wear… why not donate it to charity? Now, that would be, to quote Rachel herself – “bananas!”
