Glam Slam: The Friday Five — Anti-Aging Tips

I nominate Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett for Hollywood’s Amazing Skin Hall of Fame. They are my inspiration to take care of my own skin and I’ve been pretty diligent about wearing sunblock all Summer, which as we all know, is a great way to fight wrinkles and other signs of aging. That’s just the beginning of course. Skin care expert Maxine Siegel shares her five favorite anti-aging tips.

GET YOUR VITAMINS…
It is common knowledge that foods rich in antioxidants provide many benefits to the skin. We know to eat our veggies and drink our green tea, but we may not know about the importance of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is crucial for skin development and the maintenance of skin and nail health. Include Vitamin A-rich foods, found in dark green vegetables and deep yellow fruits and vegetables, in your diet to keep your nails strong and your skin healthy and supple.

…AND YOUR MINERALS!
For thousands of years, people have enjoyed the benefits of minerals on the skin. Only recently have we begun to understand the importance of these ingredients. Minerals facilitate cellular communication and help maintain skin health. In particular, magnesium, calcium, potassium and sodium maintain the skin’s Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) by regulating water levels. Maxine recommends AHAVA, the mineral-based skin care line to balance the skin in one quick application. She says celebs like Kristin Davis, Reese Witherspoon and Kim Kardashian can’t get enough. www.ahavaus.com

GET DIRTY!
As kids, we mastered the art of the mud pie. We may not realize that in doing so, we learned to perform one of the best at home detoxifying treatments. We can still enjoy the fun of playing in the mud and getting beautiful in the process. Once per week, apply a Dead Sea Mineral Mask. Leave the face mask on for only two minutes and rinse. Apply Dead Sea Mineral Mud to the body and leave on 7 to 15 minutes. Rinse to reveal detoxified, energized skin.

SLEEP = BEAUTY
We all know sleep is nutrition. Unfortunately we also know how it looks and feels to NOT get enough of it. Make it a priority to get enough uninterrupted sleep every night, and sleep carefully! Make sure your pillowcase is clean and try not to sleep on your stomach. Stomach sleeping “smooshes” the face. A lifetime of this kind of facial pressure can cause deep wrinkles in the skin. Remedy this by sleeping on the back. If this is a challenge, get a pillow that cradles the head to encourage back sleeping.

DON’T STRESS
The skin has an uncanny ability to reflect feelings and emotions. Stress can dull the skin while happy people emit a certain sunny glow that no product can provide. Sure, stick to your skincare rituals (cleanse, exfoliate, purify, moisturize and protect), but also focus on developing inner peace and a fostering deep sense of calm. A positive outlook on life and a generous dose of optimism will keep you radiant and luminous better than any highlighter or skin brightener.
