Glam Slam: The Friday Five — Fall Trends To Try

Even though it’s been in the triple digits, I gave in and bought a sweater the other day. It’s hard to resist when there are so many tempting things in the stores right now.

Worried about getting overwhelmed by all the new trends?

Kate Dimmock, fashion director of People StyleWatch, is here to help!

“Fall is the perfect season to make an investment in key pieces that can last you from now, through the winter,” says Kate. “Sometimes it’s just an accessory you’ll need, while other times it’s investing in a great coat or new dress. With these must-haves, you can work some of the hottest fall trends into your wardrobe with just a touch, or by really going for it.”

Here are five to try:

HUNTER GREEN:
“Hunter green is the perfect color to make a statement for fall,” says Dimmock. “It’s rich, comes in a variety of tones and looks great on dresses, (like Jennifer Lawrence’s!) shoes or bags! Pair it with bold hues like purple and royal blue for an eye-catching look or neutrals for a more subtle take.”

MILITARY DETAILS:
“Military is going to be huge this season. With its sharp tailored approach, this can be really sexy, or smart. Look for military styles in muted colors on classic sheaths, little jackets, skinnies and more.” (Check out Posh for inspiration).

BROCADE:
This ornate fabric is perfect for dressing up, but on more casual pieces or paired with jeans and flats, it’s chic and unexpected. Brocade adds instant glamour.

SHIFT DRESSES:
You really can’t go wrong with a shift dress. It’s universally flattering — and comfortable! Expect to see trends like bright colors and patterns this season. Try to choose an above-the-knee styles and pair with heels.

VOLUMINOUS COATS:
Coats with volume and swing are a big trend for fall. The key is to wear fitted clothing underneath. With the volume of the coat, you need to make sure so it’s not overbearing. Depending on when and where you wear it, a coat can make your whole outfit!

The September issue of People StyleWatch is on sale now.
