Glam Slam: The Friday Five — Fresh Ways To Go Casual

TGIF! The weekend is here, but that doesn’t mean our casual looks can’t still be chic! The fashionable folks at InStyle have come up with some stylish ways to upgrade and freshen up your casual uniform beyond jeans.

RETRENCHING
The classic coat is a perennial keeper, but the reimagined trench is liable to become your favorite grab-and-go anywhere wrap. Opt for a sharply cropped version over skinny pants, or one with a wide lapel or laser-cut detailing. (Check out Rashida Jones in her grey 3.1 Phillip Lim!)

THE LONG OF IT
What’s new about fall’s maxi dresses? The distinctive prints that flow to the floor in gentle, airy folds. A cropped jacket in leather or denim makes this an elegantly offbeat yet comfy choice for daytime. (Rachel Bilson nails the look.)

NO BIKE REQUIRED
If you’ve got a thing for biker jackets, but were born to be mild, head out in a hide tamed to be bright and pretty with jeans or dark trousers. Play up a tough side with kickass boots or go feminine with peep-toes.

BOHO COMFORT
Pulling off this style is all about voluminous, textured and printed clothing that drapes loosely over your blue jeans. Opt for neutral pieces to show off accessories that reflect your free spirit.

DON’T JUMP
They’re not the kind of shoes that win NBA championships, but quilted, lace-up, strapped and wedge sneaks all score style points worn with leggings or a breezy dress.
