Glam Slam: The Friday Five – Get Ready For Summer!

I am heading out of town tomorrow and I’m already in a vacay state of mind and ready to summerize my beauty routine. People StyleWatch Beauty Director Holly Carter has all the tips to get you ready for Summer.

TRY A NO-FUSS HAIRCUT
Whether your hair is short, medium or long, you can go low-maintenance and still look great with a no-fuss haircut. Summer is the perfect time to consider going shorter. (Check out Ashlee Simpson’s cute pixie ‘do, pictured!) But you may want to think twice about cutting bangs when it is hot and humid. Layers are also a great way to change your look and add texture. If you have short hair, piecey-ness makes your look interesting and cool. To add flattering movement to medium length hair, try soft, chin-length strands. Textured layers give long hair a light, bouncy feel.

SWITCH UP YOUR MAKEUP
Changing your makeup can help you to keep your look fresh this Summer. During the warmer months, stay away from heavy formulas. Lightweight textures let skin breathe and allow your natural radiance to peek through. Also remember that less is more—you can definitely get away with wearing minimal makeup in the Summer. Make your look about glowing skin and add a pop of color to cheeks or eyes.

CREATE A HEAD-TO-TOE GLOW
Look gorgeous and stay away from the sun’s harmful rays with a self-tan. You’ll get the exact color you want! Before applying self-tanner, prep your skin by exfoliating, shaving or waxing for the most even look. Be sure to apply carefully. Putting on tanner in front of a mirror is a good idea, so you can see what you’re doing. Start at your feet and move up your body but be careful not to bend over as that can create streaks across your torso. Always wash your hands after applying. Lastly, waiting four to six hours before showering or working out will help your tan last. Or, you can apply it before bed so the color has all night to develop.

GO FOR A LIGHT SCENT
From fruity to tropical, light scents are perfect for right now. For a great pick-me-up, try something crisp with an invigorating citrus blend. Tropical scents with notes like passion fruit and hibiscus smell like an island getaway. Or if you’re a fan of florals, go for a fresh mix of notes like gardenia, lotus lily and violet.

STAY STUBBLE-FREE
Before breaking out your bathing suit, you’ll want to remove hair the easy way and there are many methods you can use—from razors to waxing to depilatories—to get your skin bikini-ready. Take a warm shower before starting the hair removal process. While waxing or shaving, make sure to pull skin taut and remove in the opposite direction of hair growth. In order to maintain your smooth skin, exfoliate the areas where hair was removed to prevent ingrowns—and moisturize every day!
