Glam Slam: The Friday Five — Spring Skin Shape Up

The arrival of warm weather signals the annual ritual of getting in shape, but I’m not just talking about getting your body ready for that cute little bikini you saw online.

It’s important to get your skin in shape too because Winter can do a real number on it. Dr. Susan Evans, the Director of Dermatology for Cosmetic Physicians of Beverly Hills, reveals five ways that will get your skin glowing STAT!

1. Cleanse skin daily and look for cleansers with AHAs and BHAs that help turn over dead skin cells.

2. Out with the old and in with the new! With the seasonal transition it’s important to exfoliate, not just to remove old Winter skin layers, but to help generate new skin cells. Microdermabrasion works wonders and there are many companies that make at home versions that you can purchase at the drugstore.

3. Hydrate: Winter months can deplete skin of much needed moisture. To rehydrate dry skin and get an insta-glow, my celebrity patients love the Papaya Enzyme Peel that I offer at my Beverly Hills office. You can recreate one at home by shopping your local grocery store. It’s the perfect Spring maintenance treatment.

Quick papaya rehydrating mask for dry skin:
1 cup papaya (remove seeds)
4 tablespoons honey
2 egg whites
3 tablespoons lemon or orange juice
Blend all ingredients until pureed. Place in refrigerator until chilled.
Apply mask over entire face leave on for 10-15 minutes. Then rinse.

4. If it’s not already in your routine, start wearing SPF! Choose an SPF with antioxidants to protect and repair.

5. Don’t forget about the hair and scalp. Deep condition Winter worn tresses with a natural Coconut Oil hair treatment.

Mix 1/4 cup of coconut and olive oil. Microwave 15 seconds until warm. Massage into scalp and leave on with a cap for 1 hour. Rinse. Will soften hair without clogging follicles.
