Glam Slam: ‘Twilight’ Tresses

“I sound so stupid, but in a lot of ways the hair is 75% of my performance,” Robert Pattinson joked about his signature sexy, looks-like-he-just-rolled-out-of-bed mane.

Lusting after his golden trademark tresses? Don’t settle for any old highlights when you can get Twilights! That is what Celebrity Stylist Stuart Gavert, of Gavert Atelier Salon in Beverly Hills (www.gavertatelier.com), named the hair color he created for both Rob and Kristen for ‘Twilight’. Here is how you can achieve the same look:

“The look for Rob is based in the book’s description of Edward as having bronze tones in his hair, somewhat otherworldly,” Stuart says. “We decided to put in some soft golden highlights in the front of his hair to make the amber/gold contact lenses pop out, which it did very much. As soon as we got that bronze tone in Rob’s hair, he liked it, as he had looked so dead with the darker hair and the vampire makeup. Kristen’s was just a natural, warm brown, very easy,” Stuart says.

AT THE SALON:
“To get Rob’s look, we used a demi-permanent (non-ammonia color), Color Touch by Wella, using equal parts of a light red brown and dark gold blonde. We mixed a customized color shampoo to keep the warmth in his hair for the length of the 7 week ‘Twilight’ shoot. Those highlights were painted in using the French technique called Balayage about a half inch away from his hairline. It is a very easy color to get done in salon.” Stuart suggests you bring in a photo of Edward as a reference for your stylist. For Kristen’s hair, Stuart recommends you ask for more of a golden tone.

AT HOME:
“The bronze color is pretty easy to achieve at home,” Stuart says, “if you have medium to light brown hair. As for the Balayage, there are hair painting kits to do that, but remember that LESS IS MORE. So you would color your hair first using Clairol Natural Instincts 12A, Navajo Bronze. ALWAYS follow the directions in the hair coloring kit. Then you could use Clairol Nice’n Easy Hairpainting kit. Again, ALWAYS follow the directions in the kit. Remember the length of Rob’s hair in the film. The highlights wouldn’t work well on hair too much shorter than his.”
