Glam Slam: Uniform Style

As I sat in the doctor’s office the other day, I was reminded of how nurses used to look on old TV shows and movies in their pristine, crisp white uniforms with coordinated white hose and white shoes.

Not so much these days!

The nurse helping me was wearing faded, broken in scrubs and running shoes.

Wearing the same thing every day would drive me crazy. (Obviously, I never had to wear a uniform to school!) Just the thought of wearing sneakers to work every day sends chills down my spine. Yuck, not my thing by choice, but I totally get it when you are on your feet for hours.

Then, I actually thought about it, and realized that while I might have the pick of my closet and can wear pretty much whatever I want to wear to work, I too have a uniform. I never realized it until a couple of years ago when a co-worker told me I have a very specific look.

Here is what she described as the “Ryan Patterson Fashion Formula:”

Loose, blousy shirt. Skinny jeans. Flats.

You know what? She was right! I was wearing a lot of Tucker blouses at the time and I still wear loose tops constantly. I wear skinny jeans to work practically every day and I am all about the ballet flat and have been for years. There might be variations on a theme… but I essentially wear the same thing every day. LOL! How did this happen?

We always seem to gravitate to what makes us comfortable and I guess I’ve defined what my comfort zone is when it comes to my wardrobe. As for the nurse, maybe she’s getting the last laugh. She doesn’t have to worry about what to wear at all and what’s more comfy than a set of well-worn scrubs?
