Glam Slam: Uniform Style

In the midst of all the summer sales, I am starting to see “Back To School” clothes sprinkled in stores.

Back to school shopping was always was one of my favorite times of the year, both for me growing up and now for my daughter. I loved to dress my 5-year-old in adorable outfits for preschool, but this year she switches to a “big kid” school and she will now wear a uniform. She’s kind of obsessed with the uniforms and think they are cool.

This will be a bigger adjustment for me than for her.

I keep hearing from other parents that uniforms make your life so much easier. There’s no fighting over what to wear and you don’t have to compete with what other kids are wearing. Uniforms help level the fashion playing field in a town where incomes vary wildly. I never had to wear a uniform and clothing was always a way for me to express myself, so this transition is definitely proving to be harder on me!

I know there shouldn’t be so much focus on material things like clothes and it’s all about what’s inside that counts. But I will miss all those cute pint-sized outfits!

Or maybe I’m just missing the fact that my little girl isn’t so little anymore. She’s growing up fast… too fast. And in this case, a uniform is a daily reminder that time doesn’t stand still.
