Today is the official first day of Summer – whoo hoo! Why not take a moment of appreciation to single out a few of the reasons why we love Summer.
THE AWESOME WEATHER
Duh! Not to brag, because things are pretty good year round out here in So Cal… but during the Summer, well, the weather is second to none. The beaches are gorgeous, the sunsets are amazing, there’s no humidity, no bugs. Love taking advantage of the longer daylight hours with outdoor workouts and early evening strolls around the neighborhood.
HITTING THE ROAD
For me, Summer is the ideal time to relax, refresh and unwind a little before life picks up pace again in the Fall. (Pictured: that’s me and my daughter enjoying the beach in South Carolina this month). Not everyone can afford a getaway in this economy, but even a massage, a picnic in the park or a day at your local beach can do wonders for clearing your mind.
THE FRESH FOOD
I had the ripest, most delicious red tomatoes at an al fresco lunch Sunday… paired with fresh burrata cheese, basil, sea salt and olive oil. So simple, but so good and no cooking involved. It’s also strawberry season and the watermelon and cantaloupe couldn’t be juicier. And at our house, we fire up our grill for the majority of the Summer and eat our dinners outside in our backyard. Heaven!
WARM WEATHER WARDROBE
I LOVE not having to wear layers and heavy closed toe shoes. Sandals rock! And dressing in the Summer is easy, breezy… sundresses, tank tops and shorts. Nothin’ better or more stress-free than Summer’s carefree clothing.
NO FUSS BEAUTY
Less is more in the Summer when it comes to your beauty routine too. Sunscreen is a must, but add a little eyeshadow, mascara and lipgloss and you’re done. Throw your hair back in a sleek hair band or chic ponytail and call it a day.
THE STELLAR SALES!
I just bought a cute pair of gold Prada sandals at Nordstrom that were originally $450 marked down TWICE to $182!!!!! SCORE!!!!! Plus, the good thing about living in California is that we get to wear our Summer stuff longer than most of the country, because it will be hot here through November. So it’s worth it to invest in Summer clothing as opposed to going crazy with our Winter wardrobes and this year I was able to get a lot of stuff on sale, for both myself, my husband and my daughter.
SUMMER MOVIES
A warm weather tradition and Hollywood wheels out all the big guns every Summer. And nothing transports you faster than sitting in a dark, cool theater with a box of buttery popcorn on a hot sweltering day.
