‘Glee’s’ Darren Criss Shares High School Prom Wardrobe Confession

Darren Criss and the “Glee” gang are about to go to prom next week on the hit FOX series, but in real life, the actor wore an outfit to his real life junior prom his suave character Blaine is unlikely to have approved of.

“I always made sure to be as silly as humanly possible, which I do on a day to day basis,” Darren told Access Hollywood at the “Glee” TV Academy event in Los Angeles on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, setting the scene. “It was like an all pink suit with ruffles.”

Beyond the suit, the star had some pretty loud footwear too.

“I would paint my shoes green or something really loud and obnoxious that wasn’t really very stylish, and probably a little too self-indulgent, but I was in high school,” Darren added. “I’ve learned a lot since then.”

Not only was he decked out in his most colorful gear, but Darren made a big impact on his date at the time too, ditching her every few minutes to help take care of the event.

“I was in the band. That’s why I went. I was like on the committee that would plan the prom and the guy who was in the band at the prom so, I was the backstage guy much to the dismay of my date,” he revealed.

“I had a girlfriend at the time in high school,” he added. “Yeah, she was very happy that I was always running away to do things.”

As part of The Warblers, Darren has covered a host of artists on “Glee” and on the recently released album, “Glee: The Music Presents The Warblers,” but so far, he’s only heard from a handful of superstars whose tracks he’s put his own stamp on.

“I wish I head more from some of the artists that I covered ‘cause I’d freak out if I heard from Beyonce or Paul McCartney or any of those people,” he said.

“I think Katy Perry would probably still be the most talkative about it,” Darren said of his breakthrough “Glee” hit – “Teenage Dream,” which Katy has raved over. “Right when it came out she Tweeted about it and we’ve obviously had our interactions and we’ve sung a song together and I’ve done other things with her, so probably Katy takes the cake!”
