Gossip Of The Week: Amanda Bynes

What a difference a year makes. Long before Amanda Bynes was hospitalized last summer for erratic behavior, the gossip world was rampant with rumors about what ailed the former child star.

Now, Amanda’s mother is setting the record straight– and blaming her daughter’s troubles on substance abuse.

“Amanda has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar,” Lynn Bynes tells Access Hollywood in a statement, via attorney Tamar Arminak. “She is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana.”

Arminak was also quoted by People on Wednesday, revealing her client is on “zero medication” and has been “marijuana-free for the past nine months.”

Bynes returned home back in December, after several months of speculation that she was being treated for mental illness. The “Easy A” actress sought help at a rehab facility in Malibu and spent time in the psych ward at UCLA Medical Center, following bi-coastal brushes with the law that involved allegations of bong throwing and driving under the influence.

Over the weekend, the 28 year-old shared an image of herself vacationing in Mexico on Twitter. In the solo snap, Bynes appears healthy and happy, sporting a bright neon bikini, sunglasses and flip-flops. Accompanying the photo posted on April 5 was a thank you message to all the fans who had wished her happy birthday two days before.

The perky blonde has seemingly been getting back to her old self again, since reuniting with her parents Lynn and Rick. Subsequently, Bynes announced she was retiring from Hollywood and matriculated at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Orange County, Calif.

Looking forward to graduation, Amanda…
