Hailee Steinfeld Has ‘Fingers Crossed’ For ‘Hunger Games’ Role

The role Katniss Everdeen in the upcoming big screen adaptation of “The Hunger Games” has been a source of great speculation since the Suzanne Collins’ trilogy caught fire and “True Grit” star Hailee Steinfeld told Access Hollywood she’s hoping to be considered for the part.

Access caught up with the 14-year-old actress at the InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe awards party on Sunday, where she remained modest about her buzz for the role.

“That’s… I mean… fingers are crossed,” Hailee told Access. “Fingers crossed!”

When it came to whom Hailee was hoping to see at her first Golden Globes, the young actress was keeping an eye out for an actor that many are saying would be perfect for the role of Haymitch Abernathy in “The Hunger Games.”

“There’s so many people here… I’m in such great company,” Hailee said. “I’d love to meet Johnny Depp, that would be amazing.”

Despite the buzz for Hailee and Johnny, “Hunger Games” director Gary Ross recently told Entertainment Weekly that no casting decisions have been made.

“We’ll cast the right person for the part. Lionsgate has been great in the respect that they don’t feel that this needs a movie star in Katniss’ role. The greatest thing about the franchise and the books being the star is that we can cast whoever we want. So we all feel like we’re just going to cast the right person,” he told the mag.
