Haley Joel Osment Charged With DUI/Pot Misdemeanors

Haley Joel Osment was charged Thursday with driving under the influence, the District Attorney’s office announced.

Haley, 18, was charged with one misdemeanor count each of driving under the influence, driving while having a .08 percent or higher blood alcohol content with the special allegation of having a .15 percent or higher blood alcohol content, and possession of marijuana while driving, said Deputy District Attorney Ed Green, the deputy in charge of the Glendale office.

In addition, Haley was charged with being under the age of 21 and driving with a .05 percent blood alcohol content, an infraction of the vehicle code, according to the District Attorney?s office.

Haley lost control of his 1995 Saturn on his way home in the La Canada area around 1 a.m. on July 20. The vehicle flipped over and Osment suffered a broken rib and a shoulder injury.

He was taken to Pasadena?s Huntington Memorial Hospital at the time.

After the accident, a rep for Haley released the following statement to Access:

“Haley is doing well. He has a broken rib and lacerations to his arm but is expected to make a quick recovery. Contrary to earlier reports Haley was, in fact, wearing his seatbelt. He removed the belt to climb into the back seat where he was better able to exit the vehicle. The driver’s side door was blocked by the air bag that opened on impact. Your concern and good wishes are truly appreciated,” the statement said.

The actor is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 19 in Glendale Superior Court. He is scheduled to surrender at a later date to be booked. The D.A.‘s office is asking that bail be set at $15,000.

If convicted, he’s facing up to six months in county jail. Haley also is set to appear in the upcoming “Home of the Giants.”
