‘Hawaii Five-0’s’ Alex O’Loughlin Sold On Life On The Islands: ‘I Can’t Really See Myself Leaving’

He may have spent years establishing a life in Los Angeles, but “Hawaii Five-0” star Alex O’Loughlin is feeling a strong pull from the North Shore.

Now, with a hit drama for CBS on his hands, the actor told GQ Australia that at this point, he has no intention of leaving paradise.

“It’s one of the greatest things that’s ever happened to me,” the Aussie actor told the mag of his move from Los Angeles to the Hawaiian Islands. “This place is one of the greatest on the planet; the people here are amazing. I’ve already made so many incredible friends that I’ll have for the rest of my life. I can’t really see myself leaving, regardless of what happens to the show.”

While love of the Hawaiian Islands came fast, the actor’s transition to life in Southern California took a lot longer.

“When I first moved over here I was really, really nervous,” he told the mag. “It took me six years to settle into living in LA.”

It appears island life suits the actor, who looked tan and fit in a series of photographs for the magazine – including a handful of shirtless shots.

The actor has certainly bared an ab or six on “Hawaii 5-0,” but while he’s dedicated to his physique, he’s more focused on getting his character – Steve – right.

“There’s… a lot of fans and friends of Jack Lord — who played the original Steve McGarrett — and I’m an Australian,” Alex told GQ Australia of the pressures of taking on the iconic role. “I can’t think about any of that. All I can think about is doing my work, being true and honest within the character and trying to deliver on time.”

In related “Hawaii Five-0” news, Access Hollywood has learned that production of the series on Friday was not affected following the major earthquake that rocked Japan and sent a tsunami warning across the Pacific.
