Hayden Panettiere To Star In Lifetime Movie About Convicted College Student Amanda Knox

Hayden Panettiere is heading to Lifetime.

According to Variety, which first reported the news, the former “Heroes” cheerleader will play Amanda Knox, the American college student convicted of murdering her British roommate while studying abroad in Italy.

Tentatively titled “The Amanda Knox Story,” and produced by Pilgrim Films and television, the Lifetime movie will cover the case of the young American, who is currently serving 26 years in jail, after being convicted by the Italian courts in December 2009 for the murder and assault of Meredith Kercher. Knox’s Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was also convicted.

The case, which had sexual overtones, and prompted the UK press to nickname Knox “Foxy Knoxy,” was heavily followed by the international media, after her 2007 arrest.

Italian prosecutors accused Knox, her boyfriend and a third person, of killing the Brit during what the New York Times described as a “drug-fueled sex game that went awry.”

Knox has appealed the verdict.

As for Pannettiere, she is also working on “Scream 4,” alongside original franchise stars David Arquette, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox Arquette.
