Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Billy Bush’s Decade-Themed Bash!

Happy Birthday, Billy Bush! Access Hollywood’s host turned the big “4 – 0”. Congratulations – you’ve never looked better!

To honor his milestone year, uber-creative celebrity party planner, Mark Addison, surprised Billy on Access Hollywood Live with an incredible decade-themed birthday celebration. Mark spotlighted each of the decades in Billy’s life with food, decor, music, and drinks from each era. “It’s a fabulous way to personalize the occasion and really honor that special person in your life,” reveals Mark.

Mark shared with Healthy Hollywood tips to putting together your own decades party.

Tips For Decades Party:

#1: When creating a decades party, you may choose one decade to focus on or encompass the decades of your choice into one event. You can build the event from segment to the other in even time segments, allowing guests to enjoy the eras one by one. You may also set up stations throughout the event with different food, music, games, and entertainment from each decade.

#2: When creating the menu, come up with creative new ways to serve your food. Take an old time classic, like meat loaf and mashed potatoes, and turn it into bite sized passed hors d’oeuvre by altering the recipe to make a mini treat.

#3: Create a playlist with your favorite songs from each decade to play during the party. Make copies of the playlist and burn them to CDs to hand out to guests as a party favor.

#4: Be sure to research what was popular during the time period and feature those items during the party. Try to reinvent them in creative and purposeful ways. For example during the ‘80s Astro Pop candy was very popular. You can make a cocktail that was inspired by this classic sweet treat.

Recipe:
Astro Pop Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 oz. Absolut Raspberri vodka

1 oz. sweet and sour mix

.5 oz. grenadine syrup

.5 oz. Blue Curacao liqueur

Add vodka and sour mix into tumbler with ice to chill. Shake ingredients and pour in a large shot glass. Use Grenadine and allow to sink to the bottom of the glass. Allow Blue Curacao to sink to the middle of the glass. (It will sit on top if powered slowly down inside of glass). The finished product will be red, blue, then white from the bottom to the top.

#5: Be sure when sending an invitation to your guests that the invitation reads that it is a theme party. Encourage people to dress in the appropriate clothing for that decade. You can customize, print, and send invitations from websites such as www.zazzle.com.

#6: Create a multi-tier celebratory cake, dedicating each tier to a corresponding decade. The cake from Billy’s 40th Birthday Party was created using Wilton products, found at www.wilton.com.
