Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Celebrate Wellness Week!

There’s not much body fat in Hollywood. Many celebrities pride themselves on their skinny shape. For some getting slim equals a diet of starvation and sacrifice.

For others, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Alba being fit is a dedicated lifestyle of eating well, exercise and overall self-care.

Most of us don’t have the finances of a celebrity to recruit a team of experts to helps us get on a healthy lifestyle track. Yet, next week could be your chance.

Spafinder Wellness has put together its annual Wellness Week. Starting March 11 – 17, folks nationwide will have access to a full range of spa, fitness and wellness services at deeply discounted prices- some even free. Also, celebrities’ favorite experts in fitness, nutrition and healthy living are on-line sharing their get-well tips.

To get you started, nutrition expert Wendy Bazilian and author of “Super Foods RX Diet” shares with Healthy Hollywood her pick for the top 5 foods to boost metabolism.

1. Salmon, Eggs, Chicken & Peanut Butter (protein!)
Make sure there is a modest, healthy source of protein in every meal and most snacks. Not only does protein take a bit more energy – calories – to break down, but it also slows down the rate of blood sugar entering the blood stream, which helps to keep hunger and cravings at bay.

2. Quinoa & Other Whole Grains:
Avoid refined and super-sugary carbs found in most commercial bakery products and many processed foods, and your metabolism – and overall health – will benefit. On the other hand, complex carbs like whole grains take more energy to metabolize into energy for you to run on.

3. Green & Water:
Drinking 3 to 10 daily cups of green tea can kick metabolism into gear and stimulate fat-burning. Stay hydrated altogether can help keep your metabolism strong.

4. Spices: Red Pepper, Cayenne & Paprika:
The right spices can boost metabolism. Capsaicin is the plant nutrient in red pepper that is associated with revving up metabolism and helping us feel satisfied sooner when we include it in our meals.

5. Ginger:
A new study suggests including ginger in your morning meal –for example, as tea – can help boost metabolism and curb hunger.

As an added bonus to wellness week, Wellness Week is running a special “buy one get one free” promotion. These are good at over 20,000 gyms and spa locations nationwide. Find out more at Spafinder Wellness.
