Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – Holly Madison Gets Fresh!

Convenience is everything to busy celebs, like Playboy starlet Holly Madison – and the rest of us mere mortals!

When Holly, and others celebs like Mila Kunis and Sarah Michelle Gellar, have needed to shed a few pounds fast (yet safely), they have turned to The Fresh Diet. It’s one of the hottest on-the-go food plans, which serves yummy, fresh meals – all delivered to your home.

It sounds too good to be true. So, I had to try it out! I am always up to lose a few pounds and NOT have to cook for 5 days.

Fresh Diet is delivered right to your doorstep (love it). Every morning I woke up to a day’s worth of food – 3 entrees plus 2 snacks. The calorie intake per day was between 1200 and 1400. The Zone-based eating plan consists of a healthy balance of 40%, 30% and 30% – carbohydrates, lean proteins and good fats.

At first, I was a bit hesitant to heat up my eggs & fish dishes in the microwave, which is the suggested heating plan, but the food actually tasted pretty good.

I’m not a huge fan of eggs – but I survived and actually devoured them! The breakfast dishes varied from a tasty goat cheese, baby spinach omelet to a spicy egg burrito. The lunches were my favorite meal of the day. The salads were fresh and different every day. They were all tasty and I never felt hungry afterwards. (And, I’m a girl who likes to eat!) My week’s worth of lunch greens varied from grilled shrimp salad with tomato, cucumber, and alfalfa sprouts to a smoked mozzarella salad with whole wheat penne pasta and baby spinach.

One of my favorite parts to the Fresh Diet was not to have to cook after a long day of work. What working gal couldn’t appreciate (and love) having all her meals prepared and ready to eat! I felt like a celeb (at least for a moment). Honestly, the dinner dishes were hit or miss. I loved the fish and wasn’t crazy about the meat entrees, but everyone’s taste is a bit different – after all!

So, what’s the verdict on the Fresh Diet from nutritional experts? Nutritionist and contributing editor to “Women’s Health” magazine, Keri Glassman gave it a thumbs up! “As far as meal delivery programs go, I have many clients that like the taste of Fresh Diet. I like that Fresh Diet is exactly that – FRESH!” states Keri.

“Often meal delivery programs help, in a big way, people to control calories. Also, many people don’t want to think when they are dieting. They want all the work done for them. For this reason, meal delivery programs can be very useful,” reveals Keri. “However, if someone is not satisfied with the portions it can be frustrating and lead to overeating. In this case, I suggest, just as I would with a normal meal plan, to up the veggies at each meal (add a side salad etc.) or add in an extra portion controlled snack like a high fiber cracker with 2 tsp natural peanut butter.”

Another good tip: Keri suggests taking food out of the plastic container and serving it on your finest dishware! This makes the food look like more of a treat. Also, try and learn portion control from the meal plan by “taking a hard look at that small piece of fish and replicating it when dining out or prepping for yourself at home.”

Most customers can expect to lose between 2 – 5 pounds per week. It costs around $45/day. Check out if The Fresh Diet delivers in your area at www.thefreshdiet.com.
