Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin’ Monday – Apolo Ohno’s Lifetime Fitness!

“I work out every day,” exclaims speeding skating champ Apolo Ohno to Healthy Hollywood!

Apolo adds, “I’ve been an athlete most of my life and on a disciplined schedule. Working out for me is just part of my every day.”

The eight-time Olympic medalist might have hung up his skates, but not his passion for staying fit. “My ‘go to’ workout is called the Asylum from Beach Body. It’s intense training with lots of intervals, core work. It’s hard! I travel a lot, so I can take it on the road with me and do it in a hotel room. Lately, I’m also really into lifting weights. I could never focus on my upper body as a skater, so I’m enjoying having symmetrical upper and lower body muscle.”

Healthy Hollywood caught up with Apolo at the Subway fitness event to launch their new Subway FitPacks, which is a symbol of the restaurants dedication to health and wellness. At the New York City event, Apolo led a workout session for the media, which included the weight workout FlyBarre and surfboard exercise Surfset.

“As for Surfset, loved it. Great sport, great athletes, loved the core strength element involved. That was the idea of the event to encourage people to exercise and eat right,” adds Apolo.

While Apolo won’t be competing in February’s Winter Olympics, he will have a special role in Sochi. He’s going to be a correspondent for NBC. “I’m really enjoying this new role – being the one behind the microphone and the one asking the questions and steering the conversation. It’s rewarding to help bring out the best person, whether it’s their story as an athlete or their personality on a network show. I’m into it and hope to do a lot more.”

First up though, Apolo is hosting the Game Show Network’s “Minute to Win It.”

“This was my first ‘hosting’ role and it was intense and a lot of work but I loved it! Broadcasting is definitely in my cards for the future and I’m determined to work hard at it – to perfect it and create my style and niche,” exclaims Apolo.
