Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin’ Monday – Get Sweet On A Halloween Workout!

Celebrities, like Heidi Klum and Seal, plus the rest of us mere mortals are revving up for the sweetest night of the year – Halloween.

I am not big on dressing up, but I do love to open my door and give away candy to all the Trick or Treaters. And, I pride myself on being the house to stop by – so I’ve got oodles of yummy sweets.

The only problem: I find my hand repeatedly reaching into the candy dish. And, it’s doesn’t stop on Halloween night, there’s also my daughter’s stash that quickly becomes my after-dinner staple. You too?

Don’t get spooked! Reebok’s global fitness trainer, Sara Haley, has exercises to work off the holiday treats and teach you a few new tricks.

HALLOWEEN FITNESS FUN:

1. Witches Brew:
Begin by sitting on your knees with your glutes touching your heels. Clasp your hands together, as if you were holding a large wooden spoon. Slowly raise your glutes up and off of your heels. (Squeeze your cheeks together.) As you do this stir your Witches Brew in a big circle to the right. Lower back down halfway. Come back up and stir again. Lower back down halfway and hold. Stir 3 times to the right. Come back to the starting position, and repeat stirring the brew to the left.

2. Frankenstein Abs:
Lie on your back with your legs straight up in the air, hips in line with your feet, and your feet flexed. Reach your arms out in front of you. Keeping your core engaged and your head on the floor, begin your Frankenstein walk. Simultaneously lower your right arm (don’t let it touch the ground) and lower your left leg close to the floor. Hold for a count of 2 (remember Frankenstein moves slowly). Switch arms and legs. Alternate ten times. Try to keep your limbs as straight as possible as you do this, just like Frankenstein.

*Only go as far as you can while keeping your core engaged. If you feel your rib cage start to open up you’ve lowered your leg too far.

3. Black Cat Prep & Stretch:
Begin on all fours with hands underneath shoulders & knees underneath hips. Lift both knees up off of the floor and hover with core engaged for a count of 10. (Feel free to also lift one knee at a time.) Lower your knees down and round your back like a Black Cat. Hold for a count of 4. Release and arch your back looking all the way up to the ceiling.

Remember to breathe deeply! Repeat a minimum of 3 times.
