Healthy Hollywood: Get Movin’ Monday – Keep Fit This Holiday

The Obamas celebrated the holiday season last night at the 30th annual Christmas in Washington concert. Superstars like Justin Beiber, Jennifer Hudson, and Cee Lo Green all sang Christmas carols and songs.

Chances are your holiday party won’t have celebrity entertainers on the roster – but there will be lots of celebrating. Oh, the holidays! It’s a season of family, festivities and food – lots of rich, high-calorie treats!

Don’t let the holidays be your excuse to over-indulge and let the scale slide upwards. “It’s true that there are some holiday treats and family recipes that are too special to pass up – but remember: A “special occasion” applies to one meal, not the entire month of December,” reveals Kathy Smith, creator of the “Ageless with Kathy Smith” DVD series.

Kathy, a longtime fitness expert, says a lot of people slip into the “I will get back on track in January” mentality. “And in the midst of all these planned activities, most of our traditions involve lots of eating – and not much exercise,” adds Kathy.

Plus, too many parties can wreak havoc on your looks, Kathy adds, “The salt and sugar we consume can cause bloating and lethargy, while caffeine and alcohol dehydrate the skin, which means more fine lines, more dark circles under the eyes, and less energy.”

Try and be easy on yourself, but do make time for exercise – even just a mini session at the gym helps!

“A little goes a long way. Just 10 – 15 minute workout “quickies” here and there – a walk in the morning, some quick strength training moves in the afternoon, crunches while watch the game – they can all add up,” reveals Kathy.
