The U.S. Open Tennis action starts today. YAY! Healthy Hollywood couldn’t be more excited!
I am a huge fan – especially of men’s tennis. Sadly, my guy, Rafael Nadal, won’t be playing in this year’s tournament, but I’ve got my eye on Andy Murray. Sorry, Roger Federer, I would love to see this hot Scot take home the men’s title.
Besides the superstars of men’s tennis, there’s also a rising American female player capturing the hearts of the tennis world. She’s 19-year-old Sloane Stephens. The Florida native is predicted to be the next big sensation; some comparing her to the Williams sisters.
Healthy Hollywood caught up with the smiley Sloane just a few days before she hit the courts at the U.S. Open. “New York is always really special to any American who plays at the Open. I’m really excited and hopefully, this year will be a good year.”
This year marked the first time the young sensation travelled the world by herself (without mom) as a professional tennis player. “All my friends are in college or in school, I’m like “yeah, I’m in Paris this week and next week I’m going to Rome and it’s definitely different because I have completely crazy life – but I enjoy it so much.”
But, it’s not all play time, Sloane works hard to keep her game in top condition. “I’ve been doing a lot of sprints with my coach because it’s a confidence boost when you can beat your coach. So, I’m always up for sprints because it will give me boost. I do a lot of track work. I like to run. I don’t like to go to the gym. But, for the most part, I do normal fitness stuff and practice [tennis] every day.”
Oh, and just like most young women, Sloane loves to spend her time off court – shopping and eating. She justifies her shopping splurges as a form of exercise, adding, “You have to walk from store to store, so it’s all really the same.”
Healthy Hollywood wishes Sloane the best at the U.S. Open. We’ll be watching.
