Skiing sensation Lindsey Vonn knows a thing or two about taking care of herself!
She’s spent years building up her body and mind to be one of the world’s greatest skiers. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined her shot at gold in Sochi, but she managed to walk the runway on crutches at The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection during New York Fashion Week 2014.
“It’s fun to be part of something special like this and everyone’s come out for a great cause,” Lindsey reveals to Healthy Hollywood.
As part of February’s heart healthy month, celebrities from the sports, food, movie and music industries took to the runway to help raise awareness about women and heart disease. After all, heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year. That’s approximately one woman every minute!
“I just try to be healthy in everything I do. I mean whether it’s walking the stairs instead of taking of the elevator or having an apple instead of a cookie. There are small things you can do every day that can make a big difference,” adds Lindsey.
Lindsey, along with actress AnnaSophia Robb, foodie Giada De Laurentiis and model Ireland Baldwin were a few of the big names at the show. And, a few of them shared with Healthy Hollywood their favorite tips for eating heart healthy.
“It all starts with eating right. It really does. When I’m disciplined and eating my best I feel the best. I could not be working out for months, but if I’m eating well I’m still feeling good. You are what you eat. I totally believe that.”
“It’s like 1100 women die a day from heart disease and it’s really preventable. I mean you have to eat right and exercise and that’s what it is. it’s really just living a healthy life.”
Giada De Laurentiis:
“I like a smoothie with walnuts, bananas and almond milk. I put it together with a nice amount of protein and sugar combo, so that I keep my energy up.”
“My grandma on my father’s side passed away from heart disease and it’s definitely something I have been aware of my whole life, but I was shocked to learn the number of women that suffer from it. Cardio and eating right are key preventers. But, everybody deep down knows what to do, it’s just a matter of doing it!”
