Healthy Hollywood: Try It On Tuesday – Valerie Bertinelli’s Walk For Charity!

Want to feed your soul? Go ahead and put your best foot forward for charity.

As we all know, exercise is an awesome way to get your heart pumping, but working out on behalf of a charitable cause is sure to make your spirits soar.

And, that’s something Valerie Bertinelli knows all about it.

“Losing weight isn’t about just getting into your favorite clothes, it’s about being healthy and lowering your risk for weight-related diseases, so you can live a longer and happier life for yourself and your family.”

“The Hot In Cleveland” star teamed with Jenny Craig to support the American Heart Association’s New York City Heart Walk. The Jenny Craig ambassador hit the pavement for a 5K on behalf of Team Jenny. The run helps to raise funds and celebrate progress in the fight against heart diseases and stroke. The cause hits home for Valerie; her mom underwent emergency heart valve replacement in 2008. Doctors told Valerie if her mom hadn’t previously lost weight she wouldn’t have made it through the surgery.

Valerie’s mom was inspired to lose weight by her daughter’s 40 pound weight loss on Jenny Craig in 2007. It’s important for the actress to remind others that weight impacts heart health. “It’s as simple as putting one foot in front of the other. You’re literally taking steps to improve your health.”

As for Bertinelli’s number workout tip, she says simply, “Just do it. For me, sometimes I will get on the treadmill and say ‘I will just do 20 minutes’ and then 20 minutes is up and ‘I’m like I can do another 10 minutes.’ Before I know it, I have done an hour. It’s just getting myself on and by time I’ve done it and finished, I never say, ‘Gosh I wish I hadn’t done that.’ It’s always like, ‘I cannot believe I did it, I’m so happy I did it.’ So it’s just taking that step forward to just do it.”

New York City’s Heart Walk rose close to $2 million. If you want information on Jenny Craig or Heart Walks in your area, check out www.jennycraig.com.
