Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Celebrities Go Gluten-Free!

Celebrities love to be trend-setters! And, there’s nothing hotter in the wellness world than going gluten-free.

Miley Cyrus, Victoria Beckham, Rachel Weisz and Jessisca Alba have all touted the benefits of losing “the g” in their diet. While, some stars like Elisabeth Hasselbeck, have an allergy to wheat, others like Gwyneth Paltrow, claim not eating gluten helps them lose weight and feel better.

So, could all of us regular folks benefit from cutting out gluten in our diet? Wellness guru Dr. Frank Lipman says “Yes.”

“I find most people feel better when they stop gluten – including those without celiac disease. Of all the problems I see in my practice – from unexplained weight gain to chronic fatigue, digestive problems, aches and pains, and more – invariably, gluten is often one of the underlying causes.”

Dr Lipman, who founded the Eleven Eleven Wellness Center in New York City, works with celebrities like Gwyneth and Kyra Sedgwick, shares with Healthy Hollywood his top 3 reasons to go without gluten.

1. It’s high sugar. Two slices of whole wheat bread is the equivalent of 6 teaspoons of sugar.

2. It’s highly inflammatory – to the joints, skin and heart.

3. It can trigger auto-immune problems like auto-immune thyroid disease.

Dr. Lipman says most people will feel better within 3 days. Weight loss, more energy, clearer skin and a sharper mind are just a few of the benefits of a gluten-free diet. It’s best to avoid gluten grains, like wheat, barley, rye oats, spelt, kamut, couscous, triticale, bulgur and semolina. “You can still eat brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, millet, amaranth, and gluten-free pastas.”
