Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Get A Radiant Complexion Like Halle Berry Naturally Now!

Halle Berry is one of the most gorgeous women in the world. Yes, she got lucky in the genes department, but the 44-year-old is also reportedly a fanatic about skin care. She knows a healthy complexion is the key to a youthful glow.

Sorry gals, makeup can only do so much magic!

Halle is known to keep her cleansing routine simple and natural and reportedly likes fruit acid cleaners to exfoliate her skin and pure vitamin C to hydrate her face.

Nutritionist Keri Glassman and author of ‘The O2 Diet’ agrees that food-derived treatments are a beauty plus – no toxic/chemical ingredients, which can do more damage than good. Plus, if you’re like me, I need to keep my beauty on a budget – luxe cleansing treatments are not on my wellness menu. “There are foods that are nutritious even when you put them directly on your skin.” Keri goes on to add, “In some cases topical application is one of the best ways to absorb nutrients.” For example: Yogurt, which is healthy for bones and digestion, makes a great base for facials. Mushrooms contain selenium, which helps increase the elasticity of the skin, and prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Green tea may help reduce inflamed skin, like psoriasis and flaky skin, by slowing the growth and overproduction of skin cells.

So before you splurge on store-bought beauty items, first take a look inside your kitchen cupboard. Keri contributed to Healthy Hollywood a few of her favorite homemade beauty recipes.

Go Green Face Scrub:

Ingredients:
1/4 cup avocado
1 teaspoon parsley
2 tablespoons kosher salt

In this scrub, parsley contains vitamin C for antioxidant protection, and the coarse salt removes the dull outer layer of skin to reveal the younger-looking layers underneath. But the real magic comes from the deep-penetrating avocado oil, which boosts the amount of collagen in your skin. This beauty fix is great for people with mature, sun-damaged, or dehydrated skin. Blend ingredients in a food processor for 20 seconds. Apply to damp skin, rub allover face, and rinse.

Sweet Honey Tea Cleanser

Ingredients:
1/2 teaspoon honey
2 teaspoons yogurt
2 teaspoons brewed green or white tea

Compounds found in honey give it a protective antibacterial activity that can help skin heal faster, and green tea extracts decrease the dangerous effects of sunlight exposure. Apply to damp skin, rub allover, and rinse.

Blueberry Cream Cleanser

Ingredients:
1/8 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon brewed green tea
2 blueberries, mashed

The anthocyanins and other antioxidants in blueberries can be absorbed topically, too. Here they combine with the wrinkle-reducing properties of sour cream.

Calming Skin Mask

Ingredients:
1/4 cup white beans
2 teaspoons maitake mushrooms

Beans provide B vitamins, which protect the skin from the sun and help diminish the signs of wrinkles. Maitake mushrooms may help treat rosacea and redness. Puree in a food processor until smooth. Let mask sit 3 to 5 minutes on face. Rinse.
