Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday – Mission Possible: Flawless Skin Like Jessica Alba!

Healthy Hollywood is always on the hunt for the latest and greatest in skincare. Who doesn’t want a gorgeous glow like Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, or Halle Berry?

On my quest for a flawless, ageless complexion, I have tried different creams, done facial acupuncture, and I even have my own at-home microdermabrasion kit. Yup, I am a bit of a skincare junkie.

So, what’s new and hot in the skincare world? Healthy Hollywood recently stumbled upon two intriguing treatments.

The first is the gemstone anti-aging facial from New York’s Sjal. Jessica Biel and Sean Combs are both big fans of Sjal’s skincare, which is based on eastern medicines infused with gemstones & minerals. “[It’s] a luxurious, anti-aging facial providing holistic and rejuvenating benefits to the mind and the body,” reveals Sjal’s co-creator, Kristin Petrovich. The gemstones are used to heal, calm, and rejuvenate the complexion.

While most of us won’t be able to jet off to New York to try this facial for ourselves, Kristin reveals how to use gemstones at home. She suggests rose quartz, amethyst and clear quartz. Rose quartz is good for calming and soothing skin. Amethyst is a natural healer, while clear quartz helps to clear or move energy.

The gemstones are used as a massage tool to perform an all over body massage or are rubbed into pressure points. “I would suggest lying down with the stones and simply clearing your mind,” says Kristen, who also adds, “I like to use copper spheres, lay down with them in the palm of the hands for increased circulation and energy.” For more information on the healing power of gemstones and Sjal skincare treatments, check out www.sjalskincare.com.

The other skincare treatment, which caught Healthy Hollywood’s attention, is microdermaplaning – which is a relatively new form of deep-exfoliation. “By your mid-thirties your skin doesn’t slough off dead skin cells as rapidly as it did in your twenties, and it does get more sluggish with age,” reveals NYC skin guru, Laurie Lombardi of Townhouse 114. Dermaplaning is done with a dermatome. Practitioners, like Laurie, use the blade to remove the outer most layers of skin cells, leaving complexion smooth and radiant. Sounds crazy, but it does work! The best news is dermaplaning is relatively inexpensive and can be done in under 20 minutes. Plus, the results last up to 3 months.
