Healthy Hollywood: Wellness Wednesday — My Holiday Wish Is Skin Like Mila Kunis!

“Black Swan” actress Mila Kunis is as stunningly sexy in person as she is on the big screen. I interviewed the Russian-born beauty the other night at “Black Swan’s” NYC premiere and was in awe of her gorgeous skin. Absolutely flawless! Who wouldn’t want her radiant, smooth skin? Good genes and age may play a factor – she’s 27 and I’m 40-plus – yet I still covet her youthful glow.

I’ve been known to slather on creams, dole out money on way too pricey products, drink goji juice, munch on acai berries, and go for a facial acupuncture – I’ll do almost anything non-invasive to fight my fine (but well-earned) lines.

I know Botox and plastic surgery are celebrity musts to maintain a youthful appearance – but not for me. I am hoping for an anti-aging, all natural “miracle.” Are you listening Santa?

On my quest for flawless skin, I recently came across two anti-wrinkle, at-home treatments, which are loved by celebs and non-surgical!

Crystalift:

Celeb Fans:
Katherine Heigl, Molly Sims, Hayden Panettiere, Tori Spelling and the cast of “Desperate Housewives”

What it is:
Crystalift is the first at-home microdermabrasion machine with the same technology used by the skin pros. This counter-top version uses crystals to exfoliate and a vacuum-lifting wand to get rid of dead, dull skin and bring out more radiant skin.

It’s simple to use. First insert crystal packet; then take machine’s vacuum wand and glide it over face. Users can vary the intensity of the suction. I found it didn’t hurt, but I did get the sensation as if I was literally sucking my face clean. The only issue, I couldn’t move the wand around my nose. That said, it took less than 10 minutes and my skin was a bit red afterwards, but noticeably smoother. The “11s” between my brows were less visible – and that’s a huge plus! Long-lasting? Not sure. I’ve decided to make the investment and try it for a month (or longer).

The only downside is Crystalift is pricey at $199, plus additional crystal packets are close to $50 for a month’s supply. Remember, a salon microdermabrasion can cost upwards of a hundred dollars for just one session. So, think of it as an investment in your long-term skin care. Frownies:

Celeb Fans:
Rene Russo, Rashida Jones, Danica McKellar, Meryl Streep and Raquel Welch

What it is:
“Frownies are the most effective way to prevent and reverse expression lines on the face without injections or surgery,” proclaims Kathy Wright, CEO of Frownies. These “miracle” skin patches have been used for over 120 years to reduce wrinkles while you sleep.

The patches are literally paper splints, which are moistened and then applied over visible lines. According to Frownie gurus, the patches correct by “holding the visible layer of skin smooth and flat overnight while skin cells reposition themselves supporting the natural, smooth, healthy-looking skin.” Wright reveals, “Used for three nights on new lines, any line will be eliminated and then when it returns, usually 6 to 8 weeks later, use it again for three nights.”

The Frownies line has grown over the years and also has lots of other “natural” anti-aging products. It’s priced right at under $20 for a box of 144 patches and their Face Lift in a Bag is under $130. Be warned: there’s nothing sexy about wearing these brown patches to bed at night. Hopefully your significant other has a good sense of humor! Check out Frownies at www.frownies.com.

Anti-aging skin expert, Dr. Patricia Wexler, says the overall key to youthful skin is exfoliation. “It gives you that easy glow of a young person in love. It brings the young, healthy cells to the surface, more even pigmentation, and less flaw.”

Clean. Scrub. Rinse – my journey to perfect skin carries on!
