Healthy Summertime Snacks For Kids (Access Hollywood Live)

It’s no secret — kids love to snack! And, with the summer heat and more time spent outdoors, their appetite seems to skyrocket.

Access Hollywood Live favorite, nutrition expert Keri Glassman, shared some of her favorite kid-approved snacks. And better yet — they’re simple to prepare and healthy!

Avocado Popsicles

(Serves 8)

  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 small ripe avocados
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp. lime juice

Heat sugar and water in a medium saucepan over low heat until sugar is completely melted. Cool completely. Mash avocado with a fork or spoon, and get rid of as many lumps as possible. Add lime juice and mash some more. Whisk in vanilla and sugar water. Pour into popsicle molds and freeze until hardened.

Frozen Fruits

  • Frozen watermelon
  • Frozen grapes

Cut watermelon and cube. (insert popsicle sticks if you want!). Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for about 3 hours. Then, wash grapes and dry completely. Remove from stems. Place on baking sheet or plate and freeze.

Banana Dippers

(Serves 1)

  • Ripe banana
  • Dark chocolate
  • Sprinkles
  • Popsicle sticks

Peel bananas and cut in half (horizontally). Put popsicle stick in one end and freeze wrapped in wax paper for few hours or overnight. Melt dark chocolate in microwave or double boiler. Dip banana in melted chocolate, then roll in sprinkles. Freeze for at least 30 minutes.

Greek Yogurt Berries

(Serves 6)

  • 2 cups plain low-fat Greek Yogurt
  • 2 cups berries

Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Stick a toothpick into berry and dip into yogurt until coated. Place the berry onto baking sheet. Repeat with all the berries. Freeze for at least an hour.
